Comments: Il messaggero was inspired, says the composer, by "a vision of a messenger full of music running around the world to touch as many people as possible." However, he also cautions that this piece should not be taken as "program music" in any sense. As with any successful courier, velocity is part of then recipe for success in the opening section; the contrapuntal voices spaced in wide intervals challenge a performer's technique. The middle section is quiet, eloquent, and sad in a dignified manner, while the more sensuous quality of the composer's writing is evident in the final section. It was first recorded with the composer as pianist at the studios of Radiotelevisione Svizzera (RTSI), and first released on the Gasparo CD "Music of Giorgio Koukl" (GSCD-362).
